Materials:

- Paper plates: I used small paper plates for this craft (6 inch). They worked perfectly and fit well on the cardstock.
- Cardstock: This is what you will glue the actual flower on. It is best to use cardstock here as it is sturdier than construction paper and can withstand the weight of the paper plate, glue and popsicle stick.
- Construction paper: For this craft, green construction paper works perfectly to create the grass—little hands can either cut it into strips or tear it for a more textured look. If you’d like a sturdier finish, cardstock is a great alternative too.
- Paint, paint brushes, paint tray: Any color washable paints, paint brushes and paint tray will do for this craft. I went with brighter colors to match the spring flowers outside!
- Glue: I used liquid glue to glue the paper plate and popsicle stick to the cardstock. I used a glue stick to glue the construction paper grass. Either can work.
- Popsicles sticks: I used 1 green popsicle stick to create the stem of the flower.
Instructions:

1. Pour your paints into the paint tray. Using a paintbrush, paint the paper plate any way you like to create a flower!

2. After the paper plate has dried, glue it onto the cardstock using liquid glue or a glue stick. Next, glue the popsicle stick slightly under the base of the paper plate to create a stem (liquid glue or a glue stick also works here).

3. Cut or tear up green construction paper for the grass. Using a glue stick or liquid glue, glue the pieces of the green construction paper to the base of the cardstock to create grass.
My Toddler’s Masterpiece:

Here is what my three year old created! He chose the colors of the paint and cardstock himself; can you tell his favorite color is green right now? My toddler loved this craft and was completely engaged, happily painting and assembling his own colorful flower from start to finish (with my guidance of course).

This paper plate flower craft is a simple and joyful way to celebrate spring while encouraging creativity and hands-on play. With just a few basic supplies, kids can create something bright and beautiful they’ll be proud of. It’s the perfect easy craft for a fun afternoon at home or in the classroom!
