Materials:

- Cardstock: Cardstock works especially well for this craft since it creates a Mother’s Day gift that can be cherished for years to come. It’s more durable than construction paper, helping the finished artwork hold up over time.
- Acrylic markers: Acrylic markers are perfect for this craft, adding a vibrant pop of color and a polished finishing touch.
- Straws: Any household straws will do – cardboard ones work best here.
- Scissors: Any scissors you have at home can be used, they are simply used to cut the straw into the flower shape.
- Paint: I used Crayola washable paints for this craft—the neon set adds an extra bold burst of color, giving it a bright, eye-catching finish.
- Paint palette: This is used to hold the paint—any paint palette or even a household dish will work perfectly.
Instructions:

1. Using scissors, cut 5–6 small strips into the base of the straw to create the stamp—this step should be completed by an adult.

2. Peel back the strips to reveal a flower shape.

3. Next, use an acrylic marker to draw three circles on the cardstock—these will serve as the centers of your flowers.

4. Use a different acrylic marker—ideally green—to draw a stem extending from each flower center.

5. Pour the paint into a palette, then dip the cut (petaled) end of the straw into the paint and gently dab it around the yellow center to create the flower petals.

6. Using green paint, repeat the same stamping technique to create the stem for each flower.

6. Finally, use an acrylic marker to add a fun Mother’s Day message, then allow the painting to dry completely before giving it to Mom.

This straw painted flower Mother’s Day craft is a simple yet meaningful way for kids to create something truly special for Mom. With its bright colors, fun stamping technique, and easy setup, it’s an activity that’s just as enjoyable to make as it is to gift. My 3-year-old was able to do this craft and create a beautiful keepsake that I’ll cherish for years to come.
